Terms of Service

1. About GenCSS

GenCSS is a software product offered in two formats:

  • GenCSS Desktop: downloadable desktop software used for generating and managing CSS systems, design tokens, variables and related front-end styling workflows.
  • GenCSS for WordPress: a WordPress plugin designed to integrate GenCSS functionality into WordPress websites and page builder environments.

In these terms, “GenCSS” and “the software” mean both formats unless a section says otherwise.

By buying, downloading, installing or using GenCSS, you agree to these terms.

2. Independent Developer

GenCSS is designed, built and supported by an independent developer (referred to in these terms as “the developer”, “we” or “us”), not a large software company. It is developed with vigilance for safety and security, and every reasonable effort is made to keep it free of defects and security issues. No software can be guaranteed to be free of faults, vulnerabilities or compromise, and GenCSS is no exception.

3. Licence and Use

When you purchase GenCSS, you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the software according to the licence tier purchased.

You may not:

  • Resell the software
  • Redistribute the software
  • Share licence access
  • Reverse engineer licence protections
  • Use the software unlawfully

Licence limits may apply based on the plan purchased.

4. Use at Your Own Risk

By buying, downloading, installing or using GenCSS, you confirm that you are choosing to use it at your own risk. You are responsible for deciding whether it is suitable for your purposes, and for how and where you run it.

5. Software Provided “As Is”

GenCSS is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind other than those that cannot be excluded by law.

We make no guarantees regarding:

  • Uninterrupted availability
  • Compatibility with all systems
  • Error-free performance
  • Suitability for your specific business needs
  • Future compatibility with third-party software or platforms

You acknowledge that software may contain bugs, limitations, compatibility issues or unforeseen problems.

6. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping regular backups of your work (and of any WordPress site), and taking one before installing each new version
  • Reviewing and testing all files and code the software creates or changes before you publish them or use them in production
  • The security of the machines, sites, accounts and networks you run it on, including keeping your operating system, WordPress, plugins, antivirus and firewall up to date
  • Guarding against any third-party package or dependency that your projects download or run (for example from npm), using safeguards such as lock files, audit tools and restricting install scripts

Because of this, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for broken websites, styling conflicts, lost files or databases, website downtime, search ranking loss, client disputes or hosting issues that result from how GenCSS is used.

7. Third-Party Software and Services

GenCSS may work with, or your projects may depend on, software, packages, registries, plugins, themes, hosting or services provided by other people. The developer does not control, audit or vouch for them and is not responsible for them.

GenCSS for WordPress in particular operates within third-party environments that we do not control. These include, but are not limited to:

  • WordPress core updates
  • PHP updates
  • Hosting and server environments
  • CDN services
  • Caching systems
  • Themes
  • Plugins
  • Page builders
  • CSS frameworks
  • Selector specificity conflicts
  • Third-party scripts
  • Security vulnerabilities caused by third-party software
  • Website configuration issues
  • WooCommerce
  • Database corruption
  • Third-party API integrations
  • Hosting security breaches
  • Malware infections

Because WordPress environments vary significantly, we do not guarantee compatibility with every website setup. You are responsible for testing GenCSS for WordPress on your website, testing on a staging environment where appropriate, and verifying compatibility before using it on a production website.

8. No Guaranteed Results

GenCSS is a tool. The developer does not guarantee any particular outcome from using it, including that it will meet your requirements, or that the websites, styles or code you make with it are accessible, secure, performant or legally compliant. You are responsible for checking anything before you publish or rely on it.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • The software is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, other than those that cannot be excluded by law
  • The developer is not liable for any loss of or damage to data, loss of profits, revenue, business, contracts or goodwill, business interruption, security incident, or any indirect or consequential loss, arising from buying, installing or using the software, from anything it produces, or from any package, plugin or theme your projects use
  • The developer’s total liability to you, for all claims together arising from or in connection with the software or these terms, whether in contract, negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise, is limited to the amount you paid for your licence in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim

10. If You Buy or Use GenCSS for Work

If you buy or use GenCSS in the course of a business, including work for clients, these further terms apply, to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • All warranties, conditions and other terms implied by statute or common law, including those about satisfactory quality and fitness for purpose, are excluded
  • You are responsible for the work you deliver, and you agree to indemnify the developer against claims by your clients or any other third party arising from your use of the software or anything you make with it
  • You must notify the developer in writing of any claim within 12 months of the event that gave rise to it, or the claim is waived
  • These terms are the whole agreement, and you have not relied on any statement, promise or description not set out in them. This does not limit liability for fraud

11. Updates, Lifetime Access and Product Availability

Some purchases may be marketed as:

  • Lifetime access
  • Lifetime deal
  • Lifetime licence

“Lifetime” refers only to the operational lifespan of the product as determined by the developer.

It does not guarantee:

  • Permanent future development
  • Lifetime company operation
  • Compatibility with future technologies
  • Compatibility with future versions of WordPress
  • Compatibility with future operating systems
  • Ongoing feature development
  • Ongoing support forever

We reserve the right to:

  • Pause development
  • Change pricing
  • Modify features
  • Retire products
  • Discontinue products
  • End future updates
  • Shut down associated services

at any time, without future obligation beyond what has already been provided.

Your purchase grants access to the latest available version of the software during the active lifespan of the product.

12. Updates and Data Responsibility

GenCSS updates may introduce new features, modify existing functionality, change outputs, alter workflows, remove older functionality, or change how files, settings and generated assets are handled.

We do not guarantee backward compatibility between versions, preservation of previous workflows, or compatibility with older project structures, themes, plugins, builders, operating systems, browsers or third-party technologies.

Software updates may affect:

  • Existing configurations
  • Generated CSS files
  • Saved settings
  • Exported files
  • Integrations
  • Website styling
  • Previously created outputs
  • Stored project data

Before installing an update, back up your files, websites, databases, exported CSS files, generated assets, settings, project files and related business data.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for overwritten files, erased settings, corrupted configurations, altered outputs, lost project data, broken styling, compatibility issues or business interruption resulting from updates, upgrades, migrations, version changes or discontinued features.

13. Support

Support is provided via:

  • Email support
  • Documentation
  • Product tutorials

No guaranteed response times are provided.

No custom development, troubleshooting of third-party websites, or consulting services are included.

14. Acceptable Use

You may not use GenCSS:

  • For unlawful activity
  • To bypass licence restrictions
  • To redistribute the product
  • To resell the software without written permission

15. Events Outside Our Control

The developer is not responsible for any delay or failure caused by events outside its reasonable control, including the failure of third-party services, hosting, payment or licensing providers, package registries, WordPress or plugin updates, internet connections, operating system changes, or cyber attacks on systems the developer does not operate.

16. Your Statutory Rights

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

If you are a consumer, buying for personal use rather than for a business, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and the terms for business use in section 10 do not apply to you.

17. Disputes, Governing Law and Courts

These terms, your purchase and your use of GenCSS, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, including non-contractual disputes or claims and claims about anything said or represented before you bought, are governed by the law of England and Wales.

By buying GenCSS, you agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim, wherever you live. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts, and if you are a consumer living anywhere else, this does not remove any protection the law where you live gives you that cannot be excluded by agreement.

18. How You Agree to These Terms

Before you continue to checkout you give your name and the email address you will buy with, and tick a box to confirm you have read and agree to these terms. Your agreement is recorded with the date, time, IP address and browser, and passed to the checkout with your order. If you do not agree to these terms, do not buy or use GenCSS.

19. General

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, it is limited to the least extent necessary and the rest remains in effect. If the developer does not enforce a term straight away, it can still enforce it later.

These terms may be updated; the date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version you agreed to at checkout applies to your purchase.

  • When you agree to these terms before checkout: the date and time, your IP address and your browser’s user agent

2. How We Use Data

We use your data to:

  • Process purchases

  • Send optional product updates (if subscribed)

3. Payment Processing

Payments are processed through Lemon Squeezy.

We do not store full payment card details.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

Refund Policy

1. Payment

Payment is collected immediately at checkout.

2. Change of Mind: 14 Days, No Quibble

If you change your mind for any reason within 14 days of purchase, you can have a full refund, no quibble. Just ask.

3. After 14 Days

After 14 days, refund requests are considered case by case, depending on the circumstances. We aim to be fair and reasonable. This does not affect your statutory rights if the software is faulty.
